Do buyers pay VAT?
Yes, where the goods are standard rated. VAT is charged on the hammer price and on the buyer's premium, and shown separately on the buyer's invoice. Most buyers are VAT registered traders and reclaim it. Zero rated goods such as most children's clothing are invoiced accordingly.
