What happens to items on finance or lease?

Tell us before the item is catalogued. Leased equipment usually belongs to the leasing company and must go back to them or be bought out. Equipment on hire purchase can be sold with the finance company's consent, with the settlement figure paid from the proceeds before you receive the balance.
