Stock clearance auctions in Hull

Narrow Walkway Between Metal Shelves

Much of the surplus stock around Hull comes from the caravan and holiday home trade, one way or another. The makers work to a season, building through the winter for spring deliveries, and when a model is dropped or an order book shortens, the supply chain feels it. Joinery shops are left with cut boards and doors, upholsterers with foam and fabric, fittings suppliers with windows, appliances, blinds and lighting that were bought for a van that is no longer made, and chassis firms with brackets and axles they cannot use.

The port side adds a second stream. Freight and warehousing firms off Hedon Road end up holding goods a customer has not collected or paid for.

We sell both kinds by online auction, lotted for trade buyers. Use the contact form to say what you have and where it is stored, and we will come and look.

Caravan fittings and upholstery from the supply chain

Caravan components are catalogued for more than one market. Windows, doors, roof lights and appliances sell to the refurbishment trade, to the self build market, to exporters and to the smaller manufacturers who buy in short runs. Cut and edged boards sell to joinery shops and shopfitters. Foam, fabric, wadding and fillings sell to upholsterers across the north.

We lot by what a buyer can use rather than by which model the stock was bought for. Fifty matching windows are a lot. A pallet of mixed door furniture is a lot. Rolls of fabric are listed with width, length and composition so a buyer can bid without a phone call.

Stock made to a maker's own drawing, with their branding on it, needs their agreement before it is sold. We ask for that up front. Stock in standard sizes and plain finishes is yours to sell, and it is lotted by size and finish so the trade can bid on it.

Van and pallet collection off the A63

Sutton Fields and Priory Park were laid out with wide roads and loading bays, though what your own unit offers is checked at the site visit: dock height, door dimensions, turning space and whether a forklift is available. Buyers then back up to the dock and load what they have bought, in staggered slots so the yard keeps moving, and the length of the window follows the number of lots.

The older units around Stoneferry and the National Avenue area are checked for street parking, dock height and the route out, and where there is no dock the lotting is sized for a pallet truck and a tail lift.

Beverley, Cottingham, Hedon and Goole are within easy reach, and the Humber Bridge keeps Barton and north Lincolnshire close. Everyone else bids online and collects by haulier. Where a site cannot cope with collection at all, we bring the stock to our own premises and sell it from there.

Running the sale

A stock clearance runs as an online timed auction, open for a week to ten days in most cases. There is a viewing day at your premises, or at the location where the stock has been gathered. Bidders inspect the lots, then bid online until each lot closes.

After the sale, buyers collect within a window agreed with you, usually a few days. Collection is the point where a stock sale needs organising. Buyers arrive with vans and lorries, lots have to be handed to the right person and the paperwork has to match. Our staff manage the door and sign each lot out.

If you cannot host viewing and collection, the stock can be moved to our premises or a third party warehouse where that is agreed. That adds transport cost but keeps the process away from your trading site.

The stock clearance auctions page covers when an auction is the right route, lotting the stock, offered as seen and the buyer's position, alternatives to auction.

Questions about selling in Hull

The windows and appliances were bought for a model that has been dropped. Who buys them?

Refurbishers, repairers, small manufacturers and the self build trade, mostly. A caravan window in a standard size fits more than one van, and appliances in caravan sizes are wanted by people converting and repairing vehicles as well as by the makers. Exporters take pallets of mixed fittings. The price will be below what you paid, sometimes well below, but the stock leaves in one go and the racking is free for the next season's build. That is usually the point.

Can holiday home furniture and soft furnishings go to the public as well as the trade?

Yes. The sale is open to anyone who registers, and lots of sofas, mattresses, blinds and curtains draw private buyers alongside the trade. We still lot the bulk for trade, because a wholesaler taking forty mattresses in one lot clears more than forty separate sales would. Upholstered furniture must carry the fire label to be sold in the UK, so we check for it before listing and keep anything without one out of the catalogue.
