Stock clearance auctions in Newcastle upon Tyne

Narrow Walkway Between Metal Shelves

Offshore projects buy stock for the job and leave the remainder on the quay. Along the Tyne at Walker and Newburn, fabricators and subsea firms hold pipe, fittings, fasteners, consumables and spares that were ordered for a contract that has sailed. It was bought to a specification, it is usually certified, and it takes up yard and rack space that the next contract needs.

We sell that surplus by online auction to the firms that can use it. Other fabricators and engineering shops on Tyneside bid for material and consumables. Maintenance and plant hire businesses bid for spares and hardware. Traders bid for anything in bulk.

The distribution, printing and food production firms around the A1 Western Bypass have their own kind of surplus, from discontinued lines to packaging overruns, and it sells in the same kind of sale. Tell us what is on the racks through the form and we will come back with a lotting plan.

Offshore project surplus and certified material

Project surplus sells best when the paperwork sells with it. Pipe, flanges, fittings and fasteners with material certificates go to fabricators who can use them on certified work, and we attach the certificates to the lots. Without certificates the same material sells to general engineering buyers for what it is worth as stock, which is still well above scrap.

We lot by material, size and schedule so that a buyer can find what their next job needs. Consumables such as welding wire, abrasives, gas hoses and PPE go by the box or by the pallet. Spares for equipment are listed with the maker's part number where we can read it.

Project surplus tends to lose value while it sits in a yard by the river. Certificates get separated from the stock, packaging deteriorates, and the next project rarely wants exactly what the last one left.

Reach across Tyneside and the wider north

Bidding runs online and is open to bidders anywhere in the UK. Gateshead and Team Valley, Wallsend and the Shields on both banks of the river, and Cramlington and Blyth to the north are all near enough to view in person, and offshore material is catalogued for buyers on the other coast as well.

Collection depends on where the stock is, and the first visit checks it: hard standing, turning space, the loading door and what is available to lift with. At Newburn Riverside and the Airport Industrial Estate full pallets and bundles of pipe usually load onto a flatbed in the yard. On the riverside roads at Walker the approach can be narrow, so collection runs on booked slots with a marshal in the yard, over two or three days.

Where the yard is needed for the next contract, we take the stock to our own premises and buyers collect from there.

Running the sale

A stock clearance runs as an online timed auction, open for a week to ten days in most cases. There is a viewing day at your premises, or at the location where the stock has been gathered. Bidders inspect the lots, then bid online until each lot closes.

After the sale, buyers collect within a window agreed with you, usually a few days. Collection is the point where a stock sale needs organising. Buyers arrive with vans and lorries, lots have to be handed to the right person and the paperwork has to match. Our staff manage the door and sign each lot out.

If you cannot host viewing and collection, the stock can be moved to our premises or a third party warehouse where that is agreed. That adds transport cost but keeps the process away from your trading site.

The stock clearance auctions page covers when an auction is the right route, lotting the stock, offered as seen and the buyer's position, alternatives to auction.

Questions about selling in Newcastle upon Tyne

The material was bought for a client's project. Do we need their permission to sell it?

Only if the contract says so. Free issue material belongs to the client and goes back to them. Material you bought and were paid for under the contract is normally yours, but some agreements give the client a right to buy surplus at cost or require it to be offered to them first. Send us the surplus and disposal clause and we will tell you what can be listed openly.

Can a print or packaging overrun be sold in the same sale as engineering stock?

Yes. One catalogue can carry both, with each kind of stock lotted for the buyers who use it and grouped so that each section is easy to find. Printed stock for a customer's job should be offered to that customer first. Plain board, paper, labels and packaging consumables sell to other printers, packers and food producers in the area, and full pallets go further afield by road.
