Stock clearance auctions in Telford

Narrow Walkway Between Metal Shelves

Telford was built to hold factories, and factory stock is what we clear here. Plastics moulders on Hortonwood and Halesfield end a contract and are left with granules, masterbatch, regrind and finished mouldings that only one customer ever wanted. Automotive component makers on Stafford Park run out a programme and find the last few thousand parts, the packaging for them, the labels and the fasteners still on the racking. Food processors change a line and the printed film for the old one is stranded.

It is worth little to the business holding it and something to the trade. Polymer sells by the tonne to other moulders. Regrind sells to compounders. Standard mouldings sell to the aftermarket. Packaging and fasteners sell by the pallet to anyone who uses them.

We lot it so each of those buyers can bid, sell it online over a week to ten days, and clear it in one collection window. Tell us which estate and which phase, and we will come and look.

Granules, masterbatch and mouldings sold by the tonne and the pallet

Raw polymer is usually the strongest part. Virgin granules in sealed sacks with the grade on the label are catalogued for other moulders at a fraction of list price, and because a tonne of the right grade is worth the haulage, the sale is open to bidders anywhere in the UK. We lot by grade and by pallet, and we do not mix grades. Regrind sells to compounders and to moulders making non critical parts, and it needs the source material named.

Finished mouldings depend on what they were made for. Parts to a customer's drawing, with their part number and often their tooling, need that customer's agreement before they are sold. Standard items, containers, crates, fittings and housings, are yours to sell and go to the trade by the pallet.

Automotive components follow the same rule. Aftermarket buyers want the standard parts. The programme specific parts go back to the customer or are sold with their consent.

Numbered phases, wide roads and doors built for a lorry

Each of the three estates is laid out in numbered phases, so telling a buyer where to go is as simple as giving the estate and the phase number. What the unit itself can take is checked during our first visit, including the dock, the turning space and the site forklift. Collection is then booked in slots, with full pallets loaded at the dock and smaller lots run from a marshalling area, so a van and a wagon are not in the same yard at the same time.

Polymer is heavy. A pallet of granules weighs what it weighs, and a buyer with a small van cannot take one, so we lot the sacks in smaller quantities for the local moulders as well as in full pallets for the trade.

Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Stafford, Bridgnorth and Newport are well placed to come and look before bidding closes, and the M54 runs straight into the West Midlands. Beyond that the sale is online and stock leaves by haulier.

Running the sale

A stock clearance runs as an online timed auction, open for a week to ten days in most cases. There is a viewing day at your premises, or at the location where the stock has been gathered. Bidders inspect the lots, then bid online until each lot closes.

After the sale, buyers collect within a window agreed with you, usually a few days. Collection is the point where a stock sale needs organising. Buyers arrive with vans and lorries, lots have to be handed to the right person and the paperwork has to match. Our staff manage the door and sign each lot out.

If you cannot host viewing and collection, the stock can be moved to our premises or a third party warehouse where that is agreed. That adds transport cost but keeps the process away from your trading site.

The stock clearance auctions page covers when an auction is the right route, lotting the stock, offered as seen and the buyer's position, alternatives to auction.

Questions about selling in Telford

We have a stock of contaminated and off spec regrind. Will anyone bid on it?

Some will, if it is described honestly. Off spec regrind and mixed polymer are catalogued for recyclers and for moulders making low grade products such as pallets, pots, bins and ground protection, priced by the tonne against the work involved. Contaminated material with metal or mixed types is close to worthless and may cost you to dispose of, in which case we say so and leave it out. We check a sample at the site visit.

Our packaging is printed with the customer's brand. Is there any way to sell it?

Only with the customer's written agreement, and it is worth asking. Some brand owners will allow printed film or cartons to be sold for a use that does not reach the retail shelf, for example as void fill or to a recycler who will pulp it. Some will buy it back at a nominal price to control it. Plain packaging, unprinted film, trays and pallets sell without any of this and go by the pallet to other producers on the estates.
