Warehouse and logistics equipment sales in Derby

Industrial Warehouse with Forklift and Shelving

Warehouse equipment in Derby is mostly stores equipment, because the city's engineering supply chain runs on parts. A machining firm on Raynesway or Ascot Drive has a goods in area with pallet racking, longspan shelving for kitted parts, a counterbalance truck and a pallet scale. A larger supplier at Sinfin has a proper warehouse with reach trucks and a mezzanine. Along the A38 and A50 corridors, the logistics sheds look like logistics sheds anywhere, with long runs of racking and dock equipment on a contract.

When a programme ends or a supplier consolidates onto one site, that equipment becomes surplus. We sell it by online timed auction, on site or from our own premises. What vehicle can reach the door, and where it can turn and load, is checked before anything is listed and described in the catalogue. Bidding is online, and the trade in Nottingham and Burton upon Trent is close enough to view in person. Use the contact form to tell us what you have.

Stores equipment from the engineering supply chain

A supplier's stores is built around traceability. Shelving is bayed and labelled, parts sit in bins and stillages, and the racking is often lighter duty than a distribution shed but far more of it. That suits auction. Longspan shelving is the stock in trade of engineering firms and trade counters, and lotted in tens or twenties of bays it suits a firm fitting out a unit in one purchase.

We photograph representative bays, list bay counts, heights and shelf loadings, and sell bins, stillages, pallet boxes and louvre panels in lots by size. Counterbalance trucks go in with hours and thorough examination reports. If the machinery is being sold at the same time, the stores equipment goes into the same auction so that engineering buyers see it all on one viewing day. Where a stores area is small and the works is closing quickly, the lot can be collected to our premises and sold from there.

Corridor sheds and the pace of a contract loss

The sheds along the A38 and A50 hold contract logistics, and the pace of a contract loss is set by the customer, not the operator. Stock goes out over a few weeks, the landlord's date is fixed and the fit out has to be sold and removed in the gap between. Racking, reach trucks, powered pallet trucks, chargers and dock levellers are the main lots.

We propose a timetable and work back from the handover date. Cataloguing happens while stock is still moving. The auction would close a week or two before handover, with collection in two windows, trucks first and racking second, agreed with you once the access is known. Junctions 24 and 25 of the M1 and the A50 west to Uttoxeter put the corridor within easy reach of the East Midlands and Staffordshire trade, and the rest of the UK bids online. Our advice is to call before the last stock leaves rather than after.

How the sale runs

After a site visit we agree what is in the sale and what stays. We catalogue and photograph each lot, list the sale online and market it to warehouse operators, dealers and contractors. Bidders view on a set day, then bid online over the sale period, with lots closing in sequence.

Lots are offered as seen under the auction terms, with buyers expected to inspect before bidding. The buyer pays the hammer price plus a buyer's premium, with VAT charged where it applies and shown separately. We collect payment before release.

Collection runs over a window agreed with you. Buyers arrange and pay for the removal of their lots, with suitable handling equipment or specialist contractors where the item needs them. Our staff attend to release lots against paid invoices and see that dismantling is done safely.

The warehouse and logistics equipment sales page covers racking and how it comes down, forklifts and the records that matter, the small equipment adds up, timing a sale around a site handover.

Questions about selling in Derby

Our aerospace supplier's stores has a lot of approved storage bins and stillages. Do they have any value?

They do. Steel stillages, post pallets, plastic tote bins and louvre panels go into bulk lots aimed at other engineering firms and at the dealers who resell them. We sort them by size, count them and lot them so a buyer can load one vehicle. Anything with customer labelling can be offered once the labels are removed, and anything on the customer's asset register stays out. It is repetitive work, and it is worth doing, because a full stores adds up once it is counted and lotted.

We are consolidating two Derby sites onto one at Infinity Park. Can you sell what does not fit?

Yes. Often the racking from the old site does not match the eaves height or the floor at the new one, and the older forklifts are close to replacement anyway. We visit both sites, agree with you what moves and what sells, and run one auction from the site that is closing. Anything that is still in use up to the move date can be catalogued now and collected after the last delivery leaves.
