Warehouse and logistics equipment sales in Middlesbrough

Industrial Warehouse with Forklift and Shelving

Warehouses on Teesside hold heavier things than most. An engineering or pipework firm at Riverside Park keeps valves, flanges, gaskets and fittings in longspan shelving, stores pipe lengths on cantilever racks and moves it all with a counterbalance forklift rated for several tonnes rather than the usual two. Maintenance contractors for the process plants hold spares stores that look like small warehouses in their own right. When a plant contract finishes or a fabrication firm closes, that stores equipment needs a buyer.

We sell it by online timed auction from the seller's site, or the lots can be collected and sold from our premises. The riverside estates were built for heavy plant, though the hard standing, the gate and the turning space are checked at the visit, and removal arrangements follow the weight and dimensions of what is being moved. Bidding is online, and the trade in Stockton, Hartlepool, Darlington and Redcar is close enough to view in person. Use the contact form to tell us what the store holds and when it must be empty.

Pipe stores and the racking built for lengths

Pipe, bar and section are stored on cantilever racking, and a cantilever rack is a different sale from pallet racking. Buyers want the arm length, the arm load rating, the column height and whether it is single or double sided. We measure and photograph each run and note anything bent, because a damaged arm is not something a buyer will accept sight unseen.

Much of the trade for it is close by. Fabricators, pipework contractors, engineering firms and steel stockholders across Teesside use the same racking, and a firm in Billingham or Thornaby has a short collection run and a long wait for new. The longspan shelving that holds fittings is lotted in bays for the same trade and for plant hire yards. Stillages, pipe bogies and lifting beams from the stores go in with them. We keep the lifting equipment separate in the catalogue with its examination dates, so buyers know what is certified and what is sold for scrap value only.

Big trucks and where they go next

Forklifts of five, eight or ten tonnes capacity are common on Teesside because the loads are heavy, and they are uncommon almost everywhere else. That shapes the sale. A ten tonne truck is no use to a parcel depot. It belongs to a steel firm, a port operator, a fabrication yard or a dealer who trades into the export market. We give these lots a longer run online and photograph the mast, forks and tyres closely, because the catalogue has to answer what a viewing day would.

Getting them out is a matter for the site visit. Cargo Fleet and Skippers Lane are reached from the A66 without touching the town, and we record the gate width, the turning space and the hard standing so buyers know what they are bringing. A truck of that weight is normally moved by a haulier the buyer arranges and pays for, so we agree a collection window that suits that rather than a van. Smaller trucks and pallet trucks from the same store suit warehouses across the north east.

How the sale runs

After a site visit we agree what is in the sale and what stays. We catalogue and photograph each lot, list the sale online and market it to warehouse operators, dealers and contractors. Bidders view on a set day, then bid online over the sale period, with lots closing in sequence.

Lots are offered as seen under the auction terms, with buyers expected to inspect before bidding. The buyer pays the hammer price plus a buyer's premium, with VAT charged where it applies and shown separately. We collect payment before release.

Collection runs over a window agreed with you. Buyers arrange and pay for the removal of their lots, with suitable handling equipment or specialist contractors where the item needs them. Our staff attend to release lots against paid invoices and see that dismantling is done safely.

The warehouse and logistics equipment sales page covers racking and how it comes down, forklifts and the records that matter, the small equipment adds up, timing a sale around a site handover.

Questions about selling in Middlesbrough

Our yard at Cargo Fleet has a container handler as well as forklifts. Does that count as warehouse equipment?

It sells in the same auction, though to a narrower set of buyers. Reach stackers and container handlers go to port operators, container depots and plant dealers, some of them overseas, and we market those lots to that trade directly rather than relying on general warehouse bidders. We list the hours, the examination report and the spreader details. If it is on finance, the lender must agree to the sale first. Everything else in the yard sells to the usual local trade.

The plant is being decommissioned in phases. Can the stores be sold before the rest of the site?

Yes, and it usually should be. A stores sale is quick to catalogue and quick to clear, so it can run while the process equipment is still being dismantled. We agree with you which racks and trucks the decommissioning team still needs and leave those out until the final phase. Collection is planned so that buyers stay clear of live work areas. The heavier process plant, if we are selling that too, goes in a later sale with its own viewing day.
